ABOUT ME

  • Mother of 3 Orange County Schools students

  • Current High School Science Teacher (Durham Public Schools)

  • A decade of experience in laboratory sciences

  • Education: BA Biology, University of Virginia; MS, Chemistry, Montana State University; MS, Environmental Science, UNC Chapel Hill

  • Currently serving on Board of Education

  • Volunteer: Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA Officer, Advocate for youth experiencing housing disruption, classroom reader

I am a mother, a teacher, and a public servant, and my number one goal is to serve all of our Orange County Schools Kids.

Why I’m running

  • Inclusive opportunities for a diverse student body:

    Recognizing that we have a student body with individual needs, wants, and goals.

    Listening to our students as they tell us what those needs, wants, and goals are.

    Growing our dual language immersion

    Continuing to partner with Equal Opportunity Schools

    Expanding our CTE pathway across tiers

    College and Career Promise and college advisory capacity

    Further resourcing our Exceptional Children classrooms and supports

    …in all areas, ensure a supportive, inclusive classroom and school environment for all students, with particular care and attention to our most vulnerable students.

  • Language access for our broadly diverse OCS families:

    Student demographics continue to shift towards a more diverse populations of students and families:

    27% Hispanic students

    More than 40 languages spoken in our students’ homes

    Continue to prioritize and expand our bilingual access for families - in our school buildings, school and district communications, and in Parent Academies

    Continue to develop our ESL and Newcomer programs for students

  • STEM opportunities at every school and tier:

    A STEM education is essential for students to be ready for the global workforce. Currently uneven pockets of STEM opportunities exist across the district.

    Expand our successful FIRST robotics program and opportunities
